The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Oct. 27, "Kim Yong Sun, Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, died on October 26. He was under treatment at a hospital for a long time due to a traffic accident occurred on June 16." |
International Issues
A spokesperson for the North Korean foreign ministry said regarding U.S. President Bush's recent remarks on "written assurances of non-aggression." In a KCNA briefing on Oct. 25, the spokesperson said, "we are ready to consider Bush's remarks on the "written assurances of non-aggression" if it is based on the intention to co-exist with the DPRK and aimed to play a positive role in realizing the proposal for a package solution. However, it is premature to talk about the six-way talks under the present situation unless the U.S. will to accept the principle of simultaneous actions is confirmed." |

Rodong Sinmun on Oct 21 urged Japan to resolve its all war-time issues, saying, "Germany had paid $2.4 billion from June 2001 to Aug. 2003 in compensation for damages it incurred during the World War II. Likewise, Japan must make sincere apology for its war-time atrocities, probe the truth and make compensation accordingly." |
