Spokesman for DPRK FM Demands Japan Halt Its Anti-Chongryon Campaign
KCNA
Pyongyang, October 6 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in a statement today urged the Japanese government to face up to the trend of history and the times, halt at once its dastardly acts against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), apologize for all the damage done to all its institutions and Koreans and take a step to restore them to their original state.
Referring to the fact that the anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon and anti-Korean atmosphere is now being created in different parts of Japan at the tacit connivance of the government and under its encouragement, he said: The Japanese government is suppressing Chongryon and persecuting Koreans in Japan, branding Chongryon as an "overseas organization of a hostile state". This is a gross violation of international law and inhuman fascist terrorism.
Chongryon can not become a target of suppression and persecution on all accounts as it is an inviolable overseas citizens' organization of the DPRK and it is performing a mission and role as a diplomatic mission for friendship with the Japanese people in the absence of the diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Japan.
The Japanese government's suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan is intolerable as it is a grave anti-DPRK hostile act, part of the political, military and economic sanctions and blockade imposed by Japan upon the DPRK in a bid to actively carry out the U.S. strategy for putting pressure on the DPRK.
