Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized, "The leadership at the helm of the revolution unites the party, the military and people. With single-hearted unity that arms 10 million soldiers with one ideology, it has strategies that make us invincible to emerge victorious in any circumstance."

The Central Broadcasting Station reported, "Kim Jong Il attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Kim Il Sung & Kim Jong Il Revolutionary Monument in Jonchon county, Jagang province, accompanied by vice chairman of the NDC(National Defense Commission) Yon Hyong Muk. The monument is 11 meters long, 3.8 meters high and bears an inscription, "Ever-Shining Paths of Love for People."

The Central Broadcasting Station reported, "Pyongyang's Yong Gwang street renovation has been completed in a bid to make Pyongyang a modern city that caters to the needs of Songun(military-first) era. Pyongyang has also embarked on another renovation projects to modernize major streets in downtown."

International Issues

In its editorial, Rodong Shinmun denounced Japanese Defense Minister for his remarks that Japan would conduct preemptive strike against North Korea's missile bases, should any emergency occur. The editorial says, "the Japanese Defense Minister made the outrageous remarks as a pretext to re-invade the DPRK, taking advantage of the U.S.' hostile policy towards the DPRK. If Japan attacks our military bases, it will suffer grave military consequences that will be several tens-fold of their attack."

The Central Broadcasting Station claimed regarding U.S. President George W, Bush's speech to the U.N. (Sept. 23), "with regards to the nuclear standoff, the U.S. is currently resorting to the U.N. to disarm and stifle us. If Washington does not show us its will to abandon its hostile policy towards us, we have no choice but to take the path as we already declared."

Inter-Korean Issues

Pyongyang Broadcasting Station propagandized, "South Korean people are expressing outrages against the U.S. over the request to dispatch additional troops to Iraq, accusing the U.S. of its 'colonial attitude.' The rally against troop dispatch to Iraq is expected to expand further with more and more people joining in."

The Secretariat of the Committee for Peaceful Reunification of Fatherlands criticized Seoul in its information bulletin No. 850 dated Sept. 26 over a decision made by the Culture and Tourism Committee of the South Korean National Assembly to visit North Korea for inspection. The bulletin says, "It is preposterous and impudent for the Culture and Tourism Committee of the South Korean National Assembly to dare inspect the DPRK. They should be clearly aware that land routes on the east and west coasts re-linking the two Koreas are not for those who do not welcome reconciliation and cooperation."

A spokesperson for North Korea's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee issued a statement on Sept. 27 regarding the Seoul District Court's sentences for those convicted for an illegal secret money transfer to Pyongyang, "It is absurd and outrageous that Seoul has had special prosecutors investigate those who made a significant contribution to reaching "the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration" and put them on trial."
