Rodong Sinmun Calls for Remaining True to Idea of "By Our Nation Itself"

    Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- The idea of "By our nation itself" serves as an all-powerful treasured sword for solving the issue of reunification and a banner of sure victory as it reflects the main spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It continues:
    The idea is based on the principle of national independence and considers the great unity of the nation as an indispensable requirement.
    It is quite foolish to ask foreign forces to solve the issue of national reunification to be achieved by the concerted efforts of the nation or try to seek their strength and cooperation to find a solution to it. This would make it quite impossible to settle this issue and lead the nation to ruin in the end.
    In order to achieve the country's reunification on the principle of national independence it is necessary to build a driving force of the nation.
    The Korean nation has cherished such noble feelings and trait as ardently loving the country and the nation and valuing the dignity of the nation more than anything else throughout its history spanning 5000 years.
    This idea identifies the love of the country and the nation, which reflects its advantages and character and its common ideological feelings with the ideological basis of the great national unity. If all Koreans in the north, the south and abroad head for the country's reunification, placing the interests common to the nation above all in the idea of patriotism, they can unite close as one irrespective of ideology, political view, religious faith, class and strata and display inexhaustible strength.
