Pyongyangites Congratulate Kim Jong Il on His Reelection as Chairman of NDC

    Pyongyang, September 4 (KCNA) -- At least one million Pyongyangites today held meetings to warmly congratulate leader Kim Jong Il on his reelection as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK at the First Session of the 11th Supreme People's Assembly. The meetings were held in different places of the city including Kim Il Sung Square and the plazas of the Tower of the Juche Idea, the Monument to Party Founding, the April 25 House of Culture, the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, the Arch of Triumph and the Three Revolution Exhibition.
    Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Jong Ha Chol in his speech made at the meeting at Kim Il Sung Square said that Kim Jong Il's reelection as chairman of the NDC was a manifestation of the unshakable faith of the army and the people to entrust their destiny to him and follow him to the last.
    Kim Jong Il is an outstanding statesman and an extraordinary military genius as he ushered in the Songun era, a new era of the Juche revolution unprecedented in the history of the DPRK, with his outstanding political caliber and rare leadership ability for the past 40 years, he said, and continued:
    It is entirely thanks to the Songun policy pursued by Kim Jong Il that the DPRK has defended its ideology and system and vigorously advanced the Korean revolution, while achieving one victory after another in the fierce political and military confrontation with the U.S. imperialists and reacting to their hard-line policy with the toughest stand.
    He noted that the spirit of devotedly defending the leadership of the revolution is the core of loyalty to the Party and the leader and most ardent patriotism and love for the people.
    He called upon all the Party members, the KPA servicepersons and working people to consider the spirit of devotedly defending the leader as the first maxim of their life and struggle and become staunch fighters defending the leadership of the revolution led by Kim Jong Il at the cost of their lives.
    He underscored the need to exert sustained great efforts for the strengthening of the People's Army and consolidate the whole country as an impregnable fortress, holding fast to the Songun revolutionary line.
    Now that the U.S. does not give up its hostile policy toward the DPRK and escalates its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK as proved by the recent six-ways talks, the DPRK will continue to increase its military deterrent force to defend the sovereignty of the country, he noted, and declared: If the U.S. imperialists ignite a war on this land again, the DPRK will deal most merciless and crushing blows at them and inflict an irretrievable defeat upon them.
    He called for thoroughly implementing the line of economic construction in the Songun era on giving priority to the development of national defence industry to glorify the DPRK as a great prosperous powerful socialist nation which boasts strong national power not only in the political, ideological and military fields but in the economic field.
    Then, Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, and representatives of people from all walks of life in their speeches vowed to absolutely trust and follow Kim Jong Il forever and vigorously struggle to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche. Among those present at the meeting were senior officials of the party and state including Pak Pong Ju, Jon Pyong Ho, Han Song Ryong, Kye Ung Thae and Choe Thae Bok.
