Inside North Korea
Pyongyang Broadcasting Station reported, quoting the Aug. 15 editorial of Rodong Shinmun entitled "Comrade Kim Il Sung's feat of fatherland liberation will last forever" by stating, "We must adhere to a military-centered strategy to strengthen our self-defense capability by preparing all soldiers to become all-around, all-powerful warriors while encouraging all sectors and units to push on with projects that will boost the military." |

The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) announced on Aug.7, "The 1st session of the 11th SPA will convene on Sept. 3, and deputy registration will be held during Sept. 1 - 2 at Mansudae Assembly Hall. " |
International Issues
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson, in a statement issued on Aug 13, remarked on the six-party multilateral talks, "Our position is as follows: to confirm the US resolve to change its hostile policy toward us; to conclude a non-aggression pact; and not to accept any early nuclear inspection unless the U.S. first abandons its hostile policy against us. " |

Pyongyang Broadcasting Station quoted a Rodong Shinmun article entitled "Japan must change its hostile policy toward the DPRK" and stressed "Japan has explicitly expressed its intention to reinvade the peninsula while closely cooperating with the US containment policy toward us under the pretext of protecting itself from the 'nuclear and missile threat'. Therefore, we have no choice but to deal with Japan which does not repent their imperialist past but continues to maliciously implement antagonistic policies towards the DPRK." |
Inter-Korean Issues
Pyongyang Broadcasting Station claimed, "The recent anti-U.S. demonstration by Hancheongryun and the Korean Federation of University Student Councils at the US military firing range in which the students occupied an US armored vehicle was an expression of the South Korean people's firm resolve and will to crush the US imperialist's anti-DPRK war scheme and drive out the US imperialist army from South Korea." |

The Pyongyang Chapter of the Democratic National United Front Broadcasting, a malicious anti-South propaganda media outlet, said in a press conference on Aug. 12, "The Democratic National United Front Broadcasting's Central Committee has renamed the Democratic National United Front Broadcasting Pyongyang Representatives to the Democratic National United Front Broadcasting's Pyongyang Chapter. The Committee commissioned the Democratic National United Front Broadcasting's Pyongyang Chapter to directly broadcast North Korean Central Broadcasting's programs to the South to meet the demands of South's patriotic people in all walks of life." |

A spokesperson for the DPRK's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement on Aug. 17, in which it implies North Korea will boycott the Universiade Games in the South Korean city of Daegu, stating, "It has become obvious that we cannot send our athletes to the University Games in the South which has become a dangerous place where our athletes' basic security is not guaranteed." |
