National Rally Closes

    Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- The August 15 National Rally for Peace and Reunification closed today. A closing ceremony took place in front of Nam Gate in Mt. Taesong, Pyongyang.
    Present there were Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party who is chairman of the National Reconciliation Council, Ryu Mi Yong, chairwoman of the C.C., the Korean Chondoist Chongu Party, senior officials of public organizations, officials concerned and working people in the city.
    Also present there were the delegation of the south side and delegations and delegates of compatriots overseas.
    Speeches were made there.
    Tan Phyong Ho, chairman of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, said that there is no reason for the Koreans, a homogenous nation, to antagonize each other and stand in confrontation with each other with arms, adding that threat to peace and to the existence of the nation is coming from outside.
    Noting that there is a milestone of reunification called the June 15 joint declaration for the Korean nation, he stressed that this declaration serves as a banner of national independence and great unity and as a banner of peace.
    Ri Jong Hwal, chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification, said that this national rally deepened the conviction that Koreans do not want a war and they can surely drive the foreign forces out of the land and build a reunified and prosperous country where all of them can live in harmony if they go united.
    A thorough implementation of the resolution adopted at the rally would provide a way of protecting the peace of our nation and greeting a new day of independent reunification through national cooperation on the basis of the June 15 joint declaration, he added.
    Kim Yong Dae said that this rally for reunification was a significant assembly which demonstrated at home and abroad the unshakable will and indomitable spirit of the Koreans to clear the sky of the country of the dark clouds of war and usher in a bright morning of peace and reunification.
    He called upon all compatriots to pool their efforts and wage a vigorous struggle for the security of the nation and the peaceful reunification under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
