North Korea is expected to perform well at the upcoming Daegu Universiade, with an entry list featuring big name athletes such as Sydney Olympics archery semifinalist Choe Ok-sil and Bangkok Asiad marathon silver medalist Kim Chang-ok.

The Daegu Universiade Organizing Committee (DUOC) released the names of the North Korean participants on Thursday (Aug. 7). A total of 88 athletes will compete in nine events at the biennial collegiate games, which start Aug. 21.

Choe and Kim are early favorites to earn spots on the podium while the women's football team are also expected to challenge for gold, although North Korea has dispatched a second-string team.

Diving quintet Choe Hyong-gil, Kim Song-jin, Pak Yong-ryong, Chon Hyun-ju and Kim Gyung-ju are also among the best hopes for medals as all are quality divers with plenty of international experience
