August 15 Reunification Functions to Be Held in Pyongyang

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- August 15 reunification functions are slated to take place in Pyongyang from August 14 to 17 with representatives of Koreans in the north, the south and abroad attending. Their theme will be "on preserving to and implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration by the concerted efforts of the nation to prevent a war and defend peace." This was pointed out in an agreement on holding reunification functions common to the nation on the occasion of the August 15 Liberation Day, which was adopted at the working-level contact made between the delegations of the DPRK National Reconciliation Council and the South Korean Headquarters for the Promotion of Functions Common to the Nation in 2003 in Pyongyang from July 29 to August 2.
    The title of functions is the "August 15 National Rally for Peace and Reunification". an opening ceremony, a rally, meetings, sports and amusement games, art performances, a closing ceremony and banquets will be held.
    More than 400 representatives from the north side, more than 300 representatives from the south side and over 150 representatives from abroad are expected to participate in the August 15 national rally. Representatives of the south side will directly fly to Pyongyang.
