Kim Jong Il Participates in Election

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il went to Kim Il Sung Military University honored with the title of Kum Song Lifeguard today to participate in the election of a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly with servicepersons of the Korean People's Army.
He was accompanied by Kim Yong Chun, chief of the KPA general staff, and KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae and Kim Ki Son.
He was greeted on the spot by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly who is chairman of the Central Election Committee, KPA general Pak Jae Gyong, chairman of the KPA election committee, and commanding officers of the university.
Acknowledging the enthusiastic cheers of the teaching staff and students, he proceeded to the festively decorated polling station. After receiving a ballot from the chairman of the committee of sub-constituency no. 139 of constituency no. 658 for the election of a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly he voted for candidate for deputy to the SPA KPA officer Ju Sun Chol.
Kim Jong Il met the candidate and conversed with him.
Then he looked round the room devoted to the history of the university and its library for military education.
After seeing materials showing the glorious path covered by the university, he said that the university has developed to be a centre training the core of the revolutionary armed forces and the highest seat of learning military sceience under the wise leadership and meticulous care of President Kim Il Sung.
He praised its teachers for devoting wisdom and energy to the training of commanding officers, greatly satisfied to learn that the university built a splendid library to train all students as competent commanding officers and is effectively operating it for the education.
Noting that the position and role of the university are very important in the development and strengthening of the revolutionary armed forces, he put forward important tasks which would serve as guidelines in the education and training at the university and its operation.
