Anniversary of inter-Korean declaration marked

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The third anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was significantly marked in over 80 countries.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il received messages of greetings, letters and solidarity messages from the governments and political parties and figures of organizations of 87 countries on the occasion.
The messages and letters said that the adoption of the joint declaration was a result of his wise leadership and highly praised him as a distinguished statesman and a veteran politician of the present times.
Meetings, round-table talks, photo exhibitions, film shows and other functions took place in more than 60 countries.
Political parties and distinguished personages of all strata of various countries and international and regional bodies in statements stressed the historic significance of the joint declaration and expressed firm solidarity with the Korean people in their cause of national reunification.
In the meantime, media of different countries in articles dedicated to the anniversary noted that the core of the joint declaration is the principle of national independence and this issue should be solved before any others to settle the Korean problem.
