Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- The Korean Family Planning and Maternal and Child Health Association (KFP MCHA) will invigorate the provision of family planning and reproductive health information and services. It will further deepen cooperation with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and other international organizations. So Hyon Chol, secretary general of the association, said this in an interview with KCNA.
The association was founded in January Juche 79 (1990) as a non-governmental organization working in the field of family planning and reproductive health in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Its headquarters is located in the central district of Pyongyang.
It is a not-for-profit organization whose aim is to assist the government in the implementation of its MCH policy by providing family planning and reproductive health information and services and solving urgent issues arising in this field. The association has 7 branch offices in selected areas.
It has 8 static FP clinics with competent professional staff and volunteers.
It also runs 7 mobile clinics to provide services to the hard-to-reach population in rural and mountainous areas of the country.
It renders FP and RH services to the people every year and publishes and disseminates various publications among them.
Since its inception, it has received an active support from the government and regular financial assistance of the IPPF from 1995 when it obtained a full membership of the federation. It has also been assisted by other international organizations including the UN population fund.
