S. Korean Ministry of Defence hit for increased defense budget
KCNA
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- A joint press conference was reportedly held in front of the main gate of the South Korean "Ministry of Defence" on June 17, denouncing the ministry's move to increase the "defence budget" under the co-sponsorship of the National People's Solidarity, the Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace on the Korean Peninsula, the Democratic Workers' Party and the Society of Those for Peace and Reunification in South Korea.
At the press conference Chon Yong Se, deputy representative of the Democratic Workers' Party, accused the "Ministry of Defence" of trying to increase the "defence budget" for next year by collecting money from the people as taxes. Hong Kun Su, permanent representative of the Society of Those for Peace and Reunification, said that the move to increase the defence spending, a move which calls for South Korea-U.S. cooperation and cooperation with foreign forces, while ignoring the desire of the people, is little short of reducing the joint declaration to a dead document.
A press release read out at the press conference bitterly condemned the authorities' behavior of yielding to the U.S. pressure, indifferent to misfortune and sufferings inflicted upon the people, as an unpopular act.
Branding the move of the "Ministry of Defence" to introduce U.S.-made latest lethal weapons by increasing the military expenditure as a pro-U.S. flunkeyist act, the press release strongly demanded a halt to the arms buildup.
