Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's leadership for independent reunification

    Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il has led the struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration to the nationwide cause of achieving the independent reunification of the country by our nation itself and put the movement for national reunification on the track of national independence to meet our nation's demand for independence and interests, says Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined article today. He set forth a great proposition "by our nation itself", the basic spirit of the joint declaration, as the basic idea of the era and has wisely led the drive to apply it without the slightest deflection, the article notes, and goes on:
    It was the brilliant fruition of the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il with steadfast will and faith in independent reunification that the movement for independent reunification could advance along the road of victory, recording the events of national history in relinking the severed blood ties and territory with the burning patriotic enthusiasm of the fellow countrymen despite the challenges and obstructions of the outside forces and anti-reunification forces.
    He opened a new chapter of reconciliation and unity, the first of its kind in the history of national division, by wisely leading the work of implementing the historic June 15 joint declaration to achieve great national unity. This occupies a brilliant place in his leadership.
    His great leadership served as the source of power which helped work world-startling miracles in the struggle of the Korean nation for independent reunification and achieve remarkable events and unimaginable successes unprecedented in the history of the national division.
    Such remarkable events, unimaginable before the adoption of the joint declaration, could be brought in the era of independent national reunification under his wise leadership.
    The movement of our fellow countrymen for independent national reunification will advance along the road of victory in the future, too, under the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il, the peerlessly great man of Mt. Paektu.
