Russian Ambassador hosts reception

    Pyongyang, June 12 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Andrei Karlov hosted a reception on June 11 on the occasion of the National Day of the Russian Federation. Addressing the reception, the ambassador said that the Pyongyang visit of President Putin and the Russia visit of Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, gave a strong impetus to the cooperation in political, economic, military, cultural and different other fields between the two countries.
    The treaty of friendship, good-neighborliness and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK provided a foundation for developing the bilateral relations, he said.
    Russia and the DPRK are positively cooperating with each other on the international arena, he noted, referring to the fact that the two countries have a common stand on outstanding international issues.
    Russia actively supports the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and hopes that a positive achievement would be made in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, he stressed.
    Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun in his reply said that the DPRK-Russia friendly relations with a long history and tradition are favorably developing in the spirit agreed upon at several meetings and talks held between the heads of the two countries.
    He noted that the bilateral relations are growing viable under the deep care of Kim Jong Il and Putin.
    He wished the Russian people greater success in their work for promotion of their welfare and the economic progress.
    It is the common wish of the two peoples to attach importance to the traditional friendly relations between the two countries and further develop them and this is helpful to ensuring the peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, he said, expressing the belief that these relations would grow stronger and develop in various fields as desired by the two peoples and in their fundamental interests.
