U.S. senior officials' remarks under fire

    Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Laporte, commander of the South Korea-U.S. combined forces, in a lecture said that investment in the fighting power of the South Korean army should be made in step with the U.S. "arms buildup plan" and, earlier, U.S. deputy Defence Secretary Wolfowitz who visited South Korea stressed the "need" to increase defence budget of South Korea at a round-table talk with "members of the National Defence Committee of the South Korean National Assembly." Minju Joson today in a signed commentary says that their remarks are little short of pressure upon South Korea to invest a lot of funds in modernizing the South Korean army in step with the "arms buildup plan" and a war propaganda inciting it to confrontation with the north.
    It goes on:
    The U.S. imperialists are forcing South Korea to increase "defence budget" in a bid to make the South Korean army a modern and elite force with the tax paid by the sweat of the South Korean people's brow and use it as the cannon fodder of a war.
    Lurking behind the U.S. demand for increased defence budget is a sinister intention to sell more weapons to South Korea for great profits.
    The demand betrays the worldly mind of robbers.
    The U.S. imperialists are advertising as if the investment is needed for "deterrent force against the north", but it is a deceptive trick to mislead public opinion.
    They should no longer resort to a vicious trick, drop their reckless attempt to ignite a new war in Korea and get out of South Korea at once.
