KCNA

    Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- June 6 is the 57th anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (KCU). The KCU is a revolutionary mass organization of the Korean children for carrying forward the revolutionary cause of Juche.
    President Kim Il Sung formed the Saenal Children's Union, the first revolutionary organization of children in Korea, to establish the glorious tradition of their movement. Basing himself on this, he founded the KCU after the liberation of the country.
    The history of the Korean revolution shining with victory and glory is intertwined with the brilliant feats of KCU members, too.
    In the period of the building of the democratic state, they, the future pillars of new democratic Korea, made a positive contribution to carrying out democratic reforms and turning the northern half of Korea into a solid revolutionary base.
    They devoted themselves to defending their native villages during the hard-fought fatherland liberation war. They secured a colossal amount of fund to assist the front by collecting waste materials and picking medicinal and edible herbs. They formed juvenile guerrilla units, juvenile guard units and juvenile self-defence corps in the occupied areas including Kowon, Anju, Sonchon and Kosong to repulse the invaders.
    During the period of the post-war rehabilitation and construction and the grand socialist construction, they contributed to the economic construction through brisk do-good-thing movements while fully preparing themselves mentally, morally and physically.
    There are many lorries, tractors, tramcars, passenger ships, locomotives and passenger coaches which are called "sonyon" (children). There are also "forests of the children's union" in different parts of the country. They are a token of the ardent patriotism displayed by the schoolchildren for the building of a prosperous and strong country.
    A large number of KCU members have been honored with Kim Il Sung children honor prize.
    Today the 3 million members of the KCU are successfully fulfilling their honorable mission befitting to successors to the revolution in the worthwhile efforts for building a great socialist state, prosperous and powerful.
