- 'US Will Not Act on NK Without Seoul's Consent' Korea-net 28 Mar 2003 -- The U.S. will not take any steps on North Korea without full endorsement of the South Korean side, U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Thomas C. Hubbard said on Friday (March 28).
- JAPAN/SATELLITE LAUNCH VOA 28 Mar 2003 -- North Korea warned Japan Friday that its launch of two reconnaissance satellites earlier in the day could spark an Asian arms race. Japan's first spy satellites are primarily meant to keep watch over North Korea, amid growing concerns over that country's nuclear ambitions.
- JAPAN/SATELLITE LAUNCH VOA 27 Mar 2003 -- Japan has launched its first two spy satellites from the island of Tanegashima, one-thousand kilometers southwest of Tokyo. The launch comes amid mounting fears of a North Korean ballistic missile test.
- POWELL / KOREA NUCLEAR VOA 28 Mar 2003 -- Secretary of State Colin Powell says the United States is pursuing "every diplomatic option" to try to resolve the simmering crisis over North Korea's recent nuclear moves. Mr. Powell held talks Friday with South Korean Foreign Minister Yoon Young-Kwan, who urged the Bush administration to take a "bold initiative" with regard to Pyongyang.
- Halt to S. Korea-U.S. war exercises demanded KCNA 28 Mar 2003 -- 8 peace and religious organizations including the People Opening the Door of Peace and Reunification, the Council for National Reconciliation and Independent Reunification and the Korean Catholic Priests' Council for Justice reportedly held a rally in front of the U.S. 8th army command in Ryongsan on March 22 demanding a stop to South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises and the return of all U.S. military bases.
- HUMAN RIGHTS/NORTH KOREA VOA 28 Mar 2003 -- The European Union is preparing to introduce the first-ever resolution criticizing North Korea at the U-N Human Rights Commission in Geneva. Human rights groups say it is past time for the U-N's top human rights forum to take a stand on North Korea's conduct.
