  • KIMBALL-NUCLEAR VOA 12 Feb 2003 -- Iran and North Korea have both announced that they are activating their nuclear power capabilities. Analysts fear that it is not for power generation but for nuclear weapons production. Daryl Kimball, Executive Director of the Arms Control Association, spoke with VOA-TV's David Borgida on the NewsLine program about those nuclear threats, as well as threats from other weapons used by terrorist groups.
  • North Korea Nuclear Issue Sent to U.N. Security Council Washington File 12 Feb 2003 -- The governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) voted overwhelming February 12 to send the crisis over North Korea's nuclear program to the United Nations Security Council.

  • Total abolition of SOFA called for KCNA 12 Feb 2003 -- spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement on Feb. 8, demanding total abolition of the unequal South Korea-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), said Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation.

  • Kim Jong Il inspects military academy KCNA 12 Feb 2003 -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il on Feb. 10 inspected the academy of logistic officers of the KPA. The academy, since it was founded by President Kim Il Sung 55 years ago, has trained many competent logistic officers, thus greatly contributing to strengthening the revolutionary armed forces.
  • IAEA/NORTH KOREA VOA 12 Feb 2003 -- The International Atomic Energy Agency is expected to refer the dispute over North Korea's nuclear program to the U-N Security Council. The agency's 35-member executive board is expected to take the action at an emergency meeting.
  • NORKOR/TALKS VOA 12 Feb 2003 -- North Korea has denied that it is producing nuclear weapons, even though it has withdrawn from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Pyongyang also says it might verify it has no nuclear weapons.
