Korean People's Army servicemen, and workers placed wreaths on the graves of Kim Bo
Hyun and Lee Bo Ik (Kim Il Sung's grandparents) and Kim Hyung Jik and Kang Ban Seok
(Kim Il Sung's parents), at the Patriotic Martyrs' Cemetery and the Mankyungdae. |

On October 3, a National Foundation Day event was held in King Tangun's mausoleum in
Kangdong County, Pyongyang, with guests including Kim Young Dae, Chairman of the
Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, Ryu Mi Young, Chairperson of
the Chondogyo Young Friends Party, Oh Ik Je, Vice President of the Committee for the
Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, and Yeo Won Gu, President of the Democratic
Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland. |

On October 3, the 23rd plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung
Socialist Youth League convened in Pyongyang. During the meeting, Ree Il Hwan was
dismissed as the First Secretary for operational reasons, and Kim Kyung Ho was elected
to replace him. |

In its October 2 commentary, the Rodong Sinmun argued, "The decision of the three
Japanese ruling parties to substantially relax criteria for the use of force by the
Self-Defense Forces is an attempt to realize its old ambition to dominate Asia." |

On October 4, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station blasted the U.S. for "its 5-billion-dollar
plan to modernize nuclear weapons production facilities over the next ten years," and
argued, "What the U.S. truly seeks is to realize its hegemonic aspirations with nuclear
sticks." |

Regarding the U.S. War on Terrorism

In its October 3 commentary, the Rodong Sinmun stressed, "Japan's Self-Defense Forces
accompanied the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, which departed from the Yokosuka naval
base on September 21. Japanese militarists have finally revealed their true colors and are
moving toward aggressive military operations." |

On October 4, the Korean Central Broadcasting Station denounced the U.S. for "its
scheme to reinforce its air force in South Korea to fill the so-called military vacuum left by
the deployment of the Kitty Hawk in the Middle East. The action will put a brake on the
implementation of the June 15 DPRK-ROK Joint Declaration." |

On October 4, the KCNA reported, "according to the agreement of the fifth round of
North-South senior-level talks, bilateral government talks for discussions on how to
promote the Mt. Kumkang tour were held at the Mt. Kumkang Resort on October 4." |

On October 6, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station falsely reported that "70-million North
and South Korean people worship and follow Kim Jong Il, who is the focal point of
national unity, and who made the North-South Joint Declaration possible to open an era of
independent reunification for the nation. The people are optimistic about the dawning of a
new unified Korea." |
