Inside North Korea

On July 10, North Korea sent a congratulatory message co-signed by Kim Jong Il, Kim Young Nam, and Hong Seong Nam, to Chinese President Zhiang Zemin, Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Primier Zhu Rhongji on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

Regarding International Issues

On July 11, the entourage of Kim Young Nam, the President of the Supreme People's Assembly Presidium, left Pyongyang for a visit to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

In the July 14 issue of Minju Josun, North Korea's official daily, North Korea argued, "If the U.S. wants dialogue, it must approach dialogue on a fair and equal footing, and make a political decision to renounce its hostile policy toward North Korea."

Regarding Inter-Korean Issues

On July 12, the Broadcasting Station of the National Democratic Front of South Korea, an anti-South Korea mud-slinging propaganda media outlet propagandized, "war-mongers in South Korea are wasting precious tax money on increasing electrical power, while the nation's economy is tottering on the brink of a collapse. The people should never forgive war-mongers for their plot to invade North Korea under the U.S. aggression policy."
