North Korean defense committee chairman Kim Jong-il, accompanied by Yeon Hyung-muk, Park Song-bong and Jang Sung-taek, made inspection visits to a cosmetic factory, Bunrang lacquer ware factory, and a basic foodstuff factory in downtown Shineuiju.

In North-South issues, central broadcasting insisted (Jan.24) that currently the most important and basic issue is the thorough implementation of the 6.15 North-South joint declaration. Pyongyang broadcasting (Jan. 25) emphasized the core and basic spirit of the 6.15 North-South joint declaration are to open the door to national unification and therefore must be supported.
