In domestic news, Rodong shinmoon (12.29) declared through an official statement, "We will recall with deep sentiment that the year 2000, adorning the summit of the 20th century Chosun revolution, was the year culminating the 100-year Chosun history into the victory of socialism and opening the way to a strong and prosperous state."

In international news, an income and property double taxation prevention treaty and a protocol on athletic training in 2001 were signed (12.25) in Pyongyang respectively with Yugoslavia and China. Rodong Shinmun complained, through its commentary (12.28), that the attempt by the Liberal party in Japan to revise the constitution is an open demonstration of the militarists' aggressive character and ambition.

Meanwhile, with regard to North-South issues, the 1st session of the North-South economic cooperation promotion committee was held (on 12.27-30 at Pyongyang) to discuss organization and management issues of the committee. Minminjun broadcasting, the official propaganda channel, announced the top 10 news stories related to North-South relations in the year 2000 including the North-South summit talks and joint declaration.
