Ranking members of the North Korean government including deputy prime minister Cho Chang-duk, minister of industry Oh Suyoung, and education minister Pyong Young-lip were in attendance at the Sixth National Invention and New Technologies Fair held at the Three Revolutions Exhibition Hall. In connection with the fair, the official organ, The Worker's Daily, declared that `a new international economic order must be forged through anti-imperialist struggle to eliminate the fundamental reasons causing tension in international relations.

North Korea established ambassador-level diplomatic relations with the Philippines on July 12. In addition, North Korea criticized a decision by the KEDO Executive Committee not to compensate the stalinist state for losses caused by delays in the construction of the proposed light-water reactor as a `pretentious gibberish'.

As for inter-Korean relations, Pyongyang Broadcasting Company stated that continued progress in dialogue between the two Koreas was the only available option for any rapid developments towards peaceful unification, and that such dialogue must progress under the Three Main Principles for Unification.
