Kim Jong-il visited the Keumsusan Memorial Palace on 0:00 hours on April 15, with Cehif of the KPA Politburo Cho Myung-rok, Chief of the NK JCS Kim Young-choon, and minister of defense Kim Il-chul, to pay his respects to elder Kim on his birthday. Junior Kim and his top brass entourage then stopped by North Korea's naval headquarters following the Keumsusan visit.

KPA politburo chief Cho Myung-rok and prime minister Hong Sung-nam presided over the Central Report Session at the April 25th Cultural Hall, in connection with the late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung's 88th birthday. The pledge of loyalty by servicemen from the three armed services, late night celebration by students from Pyongyang, and an assortment of performances were also included in the proceedings.

In connection with the Group of 77 Summit being held in Cuba, the Workers Daily published an editorial stating that North Korea `will expend all efforts towards the expansion and progress in inter-Korean cooperation. The official organ blasted Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara's April 9th claims of a `riot by foreigners in Japan during contingencies' as `prattle', and that Ishihara should apologize for statements that might lead to `confrontation in its most extreme form' between North Korea and Japan.

Every major North Korean media and press organization reported on the summit agreement reached between South and North Korea simultaneously on 10 AM, April 19th. The agreement was top story on the day's edition of the Worker's Daily, followed by repeat broadcasts by Pyongyang Central Broadcasting, The Central Television, and the Korea Central News Agency.
