The 'Youth Celebration Pageant' was held in Pyongyang's Central Youth Hall in celebration of
the eighth anniversary of Kim Jong-il's inauguration as supreme commander of North Korea's
armed forces, presided over by party secretary Kim Joong-ryn, who urged unswerving loyalty
to Kim Jong-il. In addition, a central report session for commemoration of the fortieth
anniversary of repatriation of Korean residents in Japan was convened by prime minister Hong
Sung-nam at the People's Cultural Palace. |

Kim Young-nam sent a dispatch to the '(socialist) brothers in China', congratulating them on
the reversion of Macau to Chinese sovereignty, amidst continuing Red Cross and
director-level preparatory meetings between their respective ambassadors from Dec. 19th to
the 21st. |
