Weekly on North Korea (99. 11.15 - 11.21)

Kim Jong-il made an inspection visit to KPA Unit 715, one of his frontline units, with Chief of the KPA Politburo Cho Myung-rok, checking on its battle readiness. The inspection was followed by a performance by the Youth Propaganda Team.

The `Learn from Heroes' assemblies were convened by institutions and organizations across North Korea, which urged participants to 'defend the Supreme Commander unto death' and 'sacrifice for the establishment of a superpower'.

A Chinese freighter shipwrecked in seas east of Korea were rescued by the North Koreans, who took the opportunity to state that the incident will go down as `another marvelous tale that strengthened the amity between China and North Korea'.

North Korea also mobilized its 'Committee for the Rescue of Non-apostate Prisoners', 'The National Front', `Organization for Democracy and Reconciliation', and other front organizations in its unification movement in a repetition of the demands set forth by the head of the North Korean Red Cross to its southern counterpart on Nov. 3rd, calling for the return of political prisoners released from ROK prisons.

In addition, North Korea urged participation and contributions from Koreans in Korea and abroad for the erection of the Monument of the Three Charters for the Unification of the Fatherland with the slogan, 'The powerful with power, the wealthy with money, the intelligent with knowledge shall contribute to the erection of the monument'.
