young workers to become what the North Korean media describe as the `vanguard of
socialism,' urging youth to defend Kim Jong-il to the death. |

were on hand to conduct debates on the merits of Kim Jong-il's thoughts on building the
economy and so-called `interest-oriented economic management' at the First Conference of
the Association of Economists. |

The head of North Korea's delegation to Panmunjom, Pak Im-su, threatened `decisive
response' to any refusal by the Americans to negotiate on the Maritime DMZ in Korea's West
Sea. |

North Korea urged citizens of the ROK to engage in a struggle for unification and against the
government, and also encouraged them to follow unification policies as set forth by the elder
and junior Kims, during a propaganda campaign conducted through the media and the grand
report session at Pyongyang to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of
the National Democratic Front, a political front organization for the North's anti-Southern
policies. |
