Jong-il, taking time out to visit a hydroelectric plant, factories, cooperatives, and other facilities
in Chagang province. Accompanying North Korea's supreme ruler were secretary-general of
the Chagang provincial party Yon Hyung-mook, party secretary Chun Byung-ho, and deputy
chairman of the KWP Central Committee Yi Yong-chul. |

Speaker of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Young-nam, KPA politburo chief Cho
Myung-rok, and other ranking members of the party, the government, and the army
participated in a grand ceremony at the April 25th Cultural Center and pledged 'absolute
loyalty to Kim Jong-il,' 'maintained mobilization stance,' and 'increasing ideological activity'
for the 35th anniversary of Kim Jong-il's entry into the KWP on June 19th. |

military provocation by South Korea' and threatened 'retribution a thousand times greater.'

a statement 'limiting visitation and contacts by southern personnel into Pyongyang for the

A spokesman for North Korea's Naval Headquarters demanded 'an end to public
misinformation' and claimed that 'ten enemy (South Korean) ships were severely
damaged and burned and had to limp home, dragging bodies and defeated troops.' |

Council to 'request the council implement measures bringing US and South Korean
provocations to a conclusion,' without any admission of guilt, and directing blame at the

peaceful resolution, the western countries are attempting division and permanent occupation,'
and 'establishment of peace and security must be preceded by an end to high-handed foreign
