Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Kim Jong-il was very active last week, making inspection tours of military units, fish farms, and farming communes. North Korea convened its Conference on Electronic Mail and Communication, and invited a medical delegation of the pro-Pyongyang Korean organization in Japan for a Forum on Medical Science.

The North Korean media were particularly active and meticulous in their reporting of the accidental NATO bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade and subsequent anti-American demonstrations in China. They also denounced all references to North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile program, as well as abduction of Japanese nationals, and instead called for the immediate modification by Japan of hostile policies towards North Korea.

The North Koreans described president Kim Daejung's CNN interview as anti-north/unification prattle not deserving an iota of consideration, and instigated students and young people to participate actively in peasant/labor resistance and increase the intensity of the struggle against the South Korean government.
