MISSILE SALES TO CYPRUS IS A LOGICAL STEP BY RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT MOSCOW, JANUARY 13, /FROM RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT GALINA AMELKINA/-

Alexey Andreev, deputy chairman of the Duma committee on international affairs, has called the recent Russian-Cypriot transaction on the sale of anti-aircraft missile launchers S-300 as quite a logical move. In his opinion uttered today in a RIA interview, in the arms trade issue one should take into account alongside a political aspect also an economic one, which dominates in this case.

Every country has the right to decide on how to ensure its national security and the Republic of Cyprus has made its choice, said Andreev. He also believes that the fuss around the missile deal indicates that the rivalry on the arms market has become particularly acute with Russia tending to return its once leading positions.
