Fidel the noble revolutionary
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 27, IRNA -- Fidel Castro, following six decades of standing against Imperialism, maybe the last leader whose name is going to go down in the world history of noble revolutionaries.
Unlike many of his peers, Fidel Castro was raised in a wealthy family, yet inspired by a Samuel Smiles quotation, the Cuban revolutionary leader adopted 'strength and courage to swim against the stream, as he believed 'any dead fish can float with it.'
And this made him a charismatic and influential global personality and a super star on the global arena.
No doubt, the class differences under Fulgencio Batista and studying at the university as a student of law contributed to early developments of justice-seeking ambitions in young Fidel and to enlightening the future leader.
Now, 57 years after the victory of the Cuban Revolution, nobody can deny that the revolution on the Red Island and Fidel Castro's leadership role alongside with Ernesto Che Guevara, his longtime comrade and companion, helped promote a global movement against Imperialism and injustice.
Despite some comments criticizing the leftist revolution in Cuba for adopting heavy-handed approaches towards the opposition, it goes without saying that many freedom fighters in the 60th and 70th were inspired by Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution.
The stand-alone consequence of the Cuban Revolution was that it constituted a global role model for the justice-seeking anti-Imperialist movements.
One of the significant values possessed by the Cuban leader, who died on November 25, was that he never stopped rallying support for the world oppressed and for the same reason Cuba was among the first that helped freedom-seeking movements by deploying fighters and equipment across many countries and especially in Africa.
Cuba is also among the few countries whose doctors and medical teams have been sent to the so-called Third World countries to provide free-of-charge services for the poor.
The Cuban government under Fidel's leadership, during all the years the Island was facing economic hardship as a result of sanctions by the United States, provided free education and free medical services for all.
Fidel served to be a charismatic leader and mentor not only for his own people but also for all the governments in Latin America who were suffering pressures from the US and had to counter Washington-sponsored coups.
Fidel Castro is one of the strong pillars of the contemporary world and a compatriot of all the oppressed people around the world.
As a leader, he worked honestly and he never let any street or school be named after him and each year he used to declare publicly his personal assets and properties arguing that a revolution fighter should never be involved in corruption.
