China firmly opposes any actions that undermine its sovereignty and security under the pretext of freedom of navigation and overflight, and resolutely opposes any infringements, provocations, and close-in reconnaissance activities targeting China, the Chinese side said during the second working group meeting and annual conference of the 2025 China-US Military Maritime Consultative Agreement (MMCA), China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Saturday.
The meeting was held in Hawaii from Tuesday to Thursday, CCTV News reported.
Guided by the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, both sides engaged in candid and constructive exchanges on the basis of equality and mutual respect, the report said.
The two sides primarily exchanged views on the current maritime and aerial security situation, discussed typical encounters between their naval and air forces, and reviewed the annual implementation of the Rules of Behavior for the Safety of Air and Maritime Encounters, CCTV News reported.
They also discussed measures to enhance maritime military safety and exchanged views on the agenda for the 2026 MMCA working group meeting.
Both sides agreed that the MMCA meetings help ensure more professional and safer interactions between the frontline naval and air forces of China and the US, and contribute to avoiding misunderstandings, preventing miscalculations, and managing risks and crises.
During the meeting, China emphasized that it would continue to steadfastly safeguard its national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in accordance with laws and regulations, while upholding regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
