A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on Monday that the US decision to suspend Section 301 investigation action against China's shipbuilding and other related sectors marks an important step for the US to work with China and implement the consensus reached during the recent China-US economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur.
The spokesperson made the remarks when asked to comment on the announcement by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on Sunday (US Eastern Time) to suspend Section 301 investigation action against China's shipbuilding and related sectors starting November 10. On the same day, China also announced the suspension of its corresponding countermeasures, the spokesperson said.
The USTR said in a news release that it will suspend the action in the Section 301 Investigation of China's Targeting of the Maritime, Logistics, and Shipbuilding Sectors for Dominance, includes halting the imposition of port fees on Chinese vessels and pausing additional tariffs on Chinese ship-to-shore cranes and other equipment, according to a news release on the official website of USTR.
China stands ready to engage in communication and consultations with the US on relevant issues based on the principles of mutual respect and equal-footed consultation. "China also looks forward to the US continuing working with China, jointly safeguard a fair competition environment in the global shipping and shipbuilding markets, and inject more certainty and stability into China-US economic and trade cooperation as well as the world economy," the spokesperson said in a statement.
