In response to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas's claim on Wednesday that China, Russia, Iran and North Korea - who appeared at China's V-Day military parade - represented an "autocratic alliance" challenging the rules-based international order, foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, said that the remarks made by the EU official were full of ideological bias and showed a lack of basic historical knowledge. This is completely wrong and highly irresponsible, Guo stressed that China firmly opposes and strongly condemns such comments.
Guo said they openly incited confrontation, disrespected the history of World War II, and harmed the EU's own interests.
Guo noted that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was an important part of the World Anti-Fascist War. 80 years ago, the Chinese people made tremendous national sacrifices to save human civilization and defend world peace. During this period, friends from Russia, the US, and several European countries also provided valuable assistance and support to the Chinese people in their fight against aggression.
"Only by remembering history can we truly safeguard peace," Guo said. China's solemn commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is aimed at remembering history, honoring the fallen, cherishing peace, and opening up the future. Together with all peace-loving countries, China seeks to safeguard the fruits of the victory of World War II and the postwar international order, Guo said.
Guo stressed that the event was attended by 26 foreign leaders, dozens of senior government representatives and heads of international organizations, and more than 100 envoys to China from across the five continents — including 19 European countries. This broad participation, he said, demonstrated the international community's recognition of China's historical contribution and global significance in the war, as well as the shared will and determination to safeguard world peace and stability.
At a time when the international landscape is marked by turbulence and uncertainty, the world needs unity and cooperation more than ever. As the birthplace of WWII, Europe should take a deeper look at history, draw lessons from it, and strengthen solidarity. However, some EU leaders stubbornly cling to a Cold War mentality and deep ideological bias, deliberately creating confrontation and division. This does not serve the EU's own interests and will further damage its international credibility and influence, said Guo.
It is hoped that these individuals will abandon narrow prejudice and arrogant complacency, adopt a correct view of WWII history and a rational understanding of China, immediately correct their erroneous remarks, eliminate the negative impact, and do more to contribute to world peace and stability and to China-EU relations, rather than the opposite.
