When asked to comment on Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to China, reportedly his 20th visit and unprecedented in lasting a full four days, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that the two leaders' mutual visits to the other side's commemorative events marking the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War underscore the historical missions of China and Russia as major victors of World War II and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
From August 31 to September 3, President Putin visited China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 held in Tianjin and the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
During this period, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks and a small-scale tea gathering with President Putin, and also hosted a banquet for him, said Guo. President Xi also held the seventh trilateral meeting with President Putin and Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh. The Chinese side has already released news articles regarding these activities, which you can refer to, said Guo. With the support of leaders from all member countries, including President Putin, the SCO Summit was a complete success, Guo said.
Guo said that, after a decade, President Xi and President Putin once again attended commemorative events in each other's countries marking the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. This highlights the historical missions of China and Russia as major victors of World War II and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, demonstrating their firm resolve to uphold the achievements of the victory in WWII and defend the correct historical views on WWII, said Guo.
Guo stated that China is willing to follow the consensus reached during the autumn meeting between the two heads of state and continue to carry out cooperation in various fields with Russia, continuously unleashing the great potential of China-Russia relations. China is willing to play a positive role together in major international and regional issues, maintaining global strategic stability and international fairness and justice, and working hand in hand to build a more just and reasonable global governance system, said Guo.
