Chinese FM responds to Indonesian President's cancellation of visit to China for the SCO Summit and other events

According to reports, the escalating large-scale demonstrations in Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia have caused casualties; Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's cancelled his trip to China for the SCO Summit and other events. What is China's comment on the situation?

Guo Jiakun, spokesperson from China's foreign ministry, said on Monday that China has noted the changes in Indonesia's domestic situation and believes that under President Prabowo's leadership, the Indonesian government will be able to properly handle the situation and restore stability as soon as possible. He added that China also hopes Indonesia will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in the country.

China understands and respects the Indonesian government's adjustment to President Prabowo's travel plans due to domestic needs, and welcomes Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono as the president's representative to attend the SCO Tianjin Summit and for the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, said Guo.
