PetroChina's Dagang Oilfield Co in North China's Tianjin Municipality, a subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (PetroChina), announced that the oil field's underground gas storage cluster, the largest in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, has reached an annual capacity of 3 billion cubic meters, the state broadcaster CCTV News reported on Tuesday.

Dagang Oilfield gas storage cluster, located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, comprises 11 underground gas storage facilities, including those at Dazhangtuo, Bannan, and Lujuhe.

Since the cluster began its annual gas injection program in March of this year, through optimized injections and refined operations and maintenance management, injection efficiency has increased by 15 percent compared to one year earlier, reaching a maximum daily injection volume of 21.16 million cubic meters, said PetroChina.

To date, 92 percent of the annual injection capacity has been reached.

In recent years, with the rapid growth of natural gas consumption, gas storage sites play an increasingly indispensable role in ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the natural gas market.

As the largest and most efficient regional regulatory gas source in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, the Dagang Oilfield gas storage cluster serves a major gas supply sources in the region. The natural gas extracted can reach downtown Beijing within two hours, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The storage complex is expected to double its annual gas production by 2030, greatly contributing to the green, low-carbon development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Xinhua reported.
