In response to a question regarding anti-China disruptor Ted Hui Chi-fung, who reportedly has been granted political asylum in Australia, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday that "the individual mentioned is an anti-China agitator who disrupts Hong Kong's order and is lawfully wanted by Hong Kong police. The Hong Kong SAR government has issued an official statement, strongly opposing any country sheltering criminals in any form."
Mao urged the relevant country to respect China's sovereignty and Hong Kong's rule of law, and immediately cease interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs in any form.
Regarding China-Australia relations, Mao emphasized that China's position remains consistent. "We hope Australia will work with China in the same direction, adhering to the important common understandings reached by leaders of both countries. The two sides should uphold the principles of mutual respect, equality, seeking common ground while shelving differences, and mutually beneficial cooperation to promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations."
Mao's remarks came after a Reuters report published on Sunday claimed that Australia had granted asylum to Hong Kong absconder Ted Hui Chi-fung evading China's national security law.
Last December, HKSAR government issued a notice, listing seven anti-China disruptors as absconders, including Ted Hui Chi-fung and Dennis Kwok Wing-hang. Measures have been implemented against them, including canceling their passports. These absconders have been engaging in acts and activities endangering China's national security. After the warrants of arrest were issued and before the specification was made, these absconders who fled to the US and Australia respectively have not returned to Hong Kong to surrender themselves, according to the notice.
