The second batch-produced AG600 Kunlong amphibious aircraft concluded its production test flight in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province on Sunday, marking a key step toward customer delivery and operational deployment, the aircraft developer Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) announced via its official WeChat account.
The AG600-1102, piloted by its test flight crew, took off from Zhuhai Jinwan Airport and completed a series of production test flight tasks, ranging from ground taxiing, general system inspections, mission system evaluations to high-altitude flight performance tests.
After a safe landing at 7:18 am, all aircraft systems were confirmed to be functioning normally, with stable flight controls and overall stable conditions. At 9:29 am, the aircraft departed Zhuhai once again, bound for Yichang, Central China's Hubei Province for its next phase of painting.
The AG600 is China's first large civil special-purpose aircraft developed in accordance with the requirements of civil aviation airworthiness regulations, according to the Xinhua News Agency on April 20.
It is a type of major aeronautical equipment developed to meet the urgent needs of the national emergency rescue system and the national natural disaster prevention and control system, safeguarding the safety of people's lives and property.
The AG600 has developed quickly this year. On April 20, the AG600 Kunlong aircraft obtained its type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in Beijing, marking its successful development and approval to enter the market.
On July 31, the second batch-produced AG600-1102 completed final assembly and rolled off the assembly line, and was delivered for flight tests to carry out preparations before its maiden flight.
AVIC said that it will make every effort to accelerate the mass production and delivery of the AG600, put it into formal operation as soon as possible, and comprehensively build an aviation emergency rescue equipment system with the model as the leader.
Since its development began in 2009, the AG600 has completed its maiden flight in 2017, its first takeoff from a reservoir in 2018, and a maiden flight over the sea in 2020. In 2023, the AG600 was capable of carrying out fire-fighting tasks, according to Xinhua.
