China will firmly safeguard sovereignty, security, and development interests: FM on US official's claim about Russian oil purchase

Asked to comment on US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's reported claim that he warned Chinese officials on Tuesday that continued purchases of Russian oil would lead to higher tariffs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that China will take reasonable measures to safeguard its energy security based on its own national interests.
"There are no winners in a tariff war, and coercion and pressure will not solve any problem. China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests," Guo told a press briefing.
