The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition on Monday against some foreign countries' irresponsible comments on Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (HKSAR) recently issuing arrest warrants for 19 individuals involved in the organization or participation in the so-called "Hong Kong Parliament" subversive group.
China firmly supports the HKSAR government in performing its duties according to the law and strongly supports the Hong Kong police in taking legal action, the ministry's spokesperson Guo Jiakun said.
The National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force issued wanted notices on Friday for 19 individuals involved in subversive organization "Hong Kong Parliament," including wanted fugitives Yuan Gongyi and Ho Leung-mau Victor for suspected of violating the national security law for Hong Kong.
The individuals involved, who are wanted by the Hong Kong police, have engaged in illegal election activities for the so-called "Hong Kong Parliament" with the aim of subverting the national government, the spokesperson said. Their actions seriously violate the National Security Law for Hong Kong, severely challenge the bottom line of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, and severely jeopardize the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests, Guo said.
The Hong Kong police's actions in issuing the arrest warrants are a just move to uphold the rule of law in Hong Kong, a necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and security, and a legitimate move to ensure long-term stability in Hong Kong. This is in line with international law and international practices. Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs, and relevant countries should respect China's sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong and stop emboldening anti-China forces in Hong Kong, the spokesperson said.
