China deplores and firmly opposes the relevant remarks by the NATO Secretary General during the NATO Summit in the Hague, which contain a load of biases, smears and provocations, the spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands said in response to Mark Rutte's claims on China-related topics on Wednesday.
Rutte repeatedly talked on China-related topics, which are unrelated to NATO, making unwarranted remarks on the Taiwan question, hyping up the "China military threat," and falsely accusing China on the Ukraine issue, according to the embassy.
The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affairs, which brooks no foreign interference. What is undermining the cross-Straits peace and stability is the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and the indulgence and support of external forces, said the spokesperson.
If NATO truly wants peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, it should follow the prevailing trend of international commitment to the one-China principle, respect China`s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose "Taiwan independence" in any form, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson said that China is a force for world peace, defender of international order and contributor to global development. China is committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, to the path of peaceful development, and to a defense policy that is defensive in nature.
"We firmly oppose NATO using China as an excuse for its continued military build-up and disruption of global and regional security," the spokesperson said.
On Ukraine, China's position has been just and objective. "We have worked actively to promote talks for peace and a political settlement. China's constructive role has been widely recognized by the international community. China is neither the creator of the Ukraine crisis nor a party to it. We never fan the flames or seek selfish gains, and we will certainly not accept being the scapegoat," according to the embassy.
China urges NATO to form the right perception of China, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, vilifying China, and disrupting China-Europe relations, and take concrete steps to promote world peace, stability and development.
NATO claims to be regional and defensive, hope it could be. Atlantic and Pacific are far away from each other, the spokesperson said.
