
Chinese FM responds to US travel ban and restrictions, says movement of people basis for exchanges

When asked to comment on the White House's announcement on fully restricting the entry of nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Iran, and Yemen, and partially limiting the entry of nationals from seven countries including Burundi, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that "We have noticed the relevant reports. The movement of people is the basis for promoting exchanges and cooperation among countries."
According to Xinhua News Agency, US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation to ban travel from certain countries on Wednesday evening, citing national security risks.
According to a release by the White House, the proclamation will fully ban the entry of nationals from 12 countries, namely Afghanistan, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Meanwhile, the proclamation will partially restrict the entry of nationals from seven countries -- Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
The travel ban is scheduled to take effect at 12:01 am next Monday, Xinhua reported.
