On February 18, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Ugandan Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakher at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Wang Yi said that on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, China proposed to host this Security Council high-level meeting to launch a series of important commemorative events, which has received active support from countries worldwide, including those in Africa. To promote multilateralism, the voice of Africa should not be absent; to improve global governance, the participation of Africa should not be overlooked. China is ready to work with African partners to build a just and equitable global governance system and make joint efforts for world peace, stability, development and prosperity. China appreciates Uganda's active role as the rotating chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, congratulates Uganda on becoming a BRICS partner country, and stands ready to work together to promote solidarity and cooperation in the Global South and safeguard international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi said that China and Uganda always respect, trust and support each other. During the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the two countries agreed to elevate China-Uganda relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. China will always be a sincere friend and a reliable partner of Uganda on its path toward development and revitalization. China is ready to work with Uganda to follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit, continuously enrich the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, and build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
Odongo Jeje Abubakher said that in Uganda's struggle for national independence, China stood with Uganda through thick and thin; in Uganda's pursuit of independent development, China has provided Uganda with invaluable support. Uganda regards China as a trustworthy and reliable partner, admires the achievements of the Communist Party of China in state governance, and hopes to learn from China's modernization development path. Uganda highly appreciates and supports China's proposal for hosting this high-level meeting, and fully endorses the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty equality, fairness and justice upheld by China and the BRICS countries. Uganda is willing to work with the BRICS countries to stand on the right side of history.
