Chinese Foreign Ministry website updates, publishing speech from newly appointed FM Wang Yi

China's Foreign Ministry on Friday updated its website, publishing a speech by the newly appointed Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in which Wang said China's diplomacy will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy of peace, deepen and expand global partnerships, as well as defend the country's sovereignty and development interests.

In the speech published under the column of "Minister of Foreign Ministry", Wang said that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese diplomacy adheres to the mission of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the purpose of maintaining world peace and promoting common development.

It strives to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind and continuously make new contributions to the cause of human development and progress, writing a new chapter, the newly appointed foreign minister said.

Wang said that in the new journey of building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation, we will unite more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, as our guide, firmly pursue an independent and peaceful foreign policy, deepen and expand global partnerships, strive for win-win cooperation with countries around the world, actively participate in the reform of the global governance system, resolutely defend national sovereignty, security, development interests, and fully protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals and entities overseas.

With a broad mind and vigorous effort, we will uphold principles while seeking innovation, and move forward with courage and determination, continuously creating a new situation in China's distinctive major-country diplomacy, Wang said in the speech.

In the website of Chinese foreign ministry under the column of "Foreign Minister's Activity," the content also included list of diplomatic activities of Qin Gang. The latest ones were events on June 25 when he met diplomats from Vietnam, Russia and Sri Lanka.

According to a decision adopted at the fourth session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress convened on Tuesday, Wang Yi was appointed as foreign minister with Qin Gang being removed from the post.
