On April 13, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Qin Gang in Samarkand, on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of Afghanistan's Neighbouring Countries.

The ministers praised the current state of bilateral relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, and discussed the implementation of the agreements reached during the talks between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping as part of the Chinese leader's state visit to Russia on March 20-21, 2023.

They discussed a number of topical issues on the regional and international agenda, including developments in Afghanistan and Central Asia, as well as integration processes in the Eurasian space. The parties exchanged assessments of the current situation in and around Ukraine.

The ministers reaffirmed their intention to step up interaction and coordination within multilateral formats involving the two countries, such as the UN, the SCO and BRICS, as well as efforts to align integration processes on the Eurasian continent.

The parties noted that they hold close or coinciding positions on all the issues discussed. They unanimously rejected attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, impose unilateral approaches through blackmail and threats, and oppose the democratisation of international relations.

The talks were held in a traditionally trust-based and constructive manner.
