The US recently has said it doesn't want confrontation or engage in a new cold war, but the key lies in whether concrete action from the US will follow and bring its policy toward China to a rational and pragmatic track, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

Wang made the remarks in a video meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Wang Yi said that the US recently expressed that it does not want confrontation, or engage in a new cold war, and hopes that bilateral relations will return to normal. However, the key is to implement specific actions to return the US' China policy to a rational and pragmatic track.

If the US fulfils its commitments, China is willing work with the US to jointly improve China-US relations to the satisfaction of the people of both countries, Wang said.

Wang said China firmly opposes any words and deeds that create division and advocate a new cold war. As a responsible country, China will continue to champion world peace, development, and defend the international order and provide public goods.

China's development has been and will be a force for good, defending peace and justice, Wang said.
