Over 3,500 Chinese Officials Busted for Bribes in 2010-2011

RIA Novosti

05:33 23/10/2012 MOSCOW, October 23 (RIA Novosti) - Over 3,500 officials from the Communist Party of China (CPC) were punished for taking bribes in 2010-2011 in line with an anti-corruption regulation introduced two years ago, Xinhua news agency reported.

The agency reported citing a statement from the CPC discipline watchdog that 3,578 officials were found guilty of illegally receiving 392 million yuan ($62.7 million).

However, 83,195 officials from the CPC surrendered voluntarily and turned in the bribes they received in 2010 and 2011 that totaled 771 million yuan ($123 million).

In the most recent clamps on corrupt officials, a government official from China’s southern Guangdong province, Cai Bin, was removed from his post after investigators found that his lifestyle and ownership of 22 houses, worth some $6.4 million, greatly exceeded his salary.
