Shanghai, April 12 (CNA) China's major newspapers voiced firm support Thursday for the Communist Party of China's (CPC's) decision to suspend former Chongqing party chief Bo Xilai from party posts.
Bo, a rising political star who was once tipped as a future leader, was removed from his post on the CPC's powerful 25-member Politburo and the 300-member Central Committee earlier this week.
The CPC authorities are investigating Bo for "seriously violating party discipline," while his wife Gu Kailai, is suspected of being involved in the death of British businessman Neil Heywood.
Most media have declared "support of the CPC authorities' decision," with party mouthpiece -- the People's Daily -- leading the pack by stating that it "supports the action" to sack Bo.
The newspapers, included the Shanghai Morning Post, the Wen Hui Bao and the Liberation Daily, also reiterated "the need to maintain a stable environment for reforms and development."
The Shanghai Morning Post was even more effusive, writing that the authorities' handling of Bo's case "has won the hearts of the people and party members, and received backing from local cadres at all levels."
The report added that many cadres in the Shanghai area said the move represented the party's strict governance and determination to govern China according to rule of law. "This firmly upholds socialist laws," the report added.
